Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out effects of intergenerational support exchange on successful aging using the second year data of ¡¯Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging¡¯. The subjects of this study are 4,040 seniors who are older than 65 years old. The key findings from the study are summarized as follow. First, ¡¯mutual support relationship value¡¯ and ¡¯one-sided support relationship value¡¯ affect on successful aging positively. Second, when we analyse sub-dimensions of successful aging, ¡¯mutual support relationship value¡¯ is statistically significant to success on physical function(+), productive activity(+), life satisfaction(+). Third, ¡¯one-sided acceptance relationship value¡¯ affects significantly on only life satisfaction among 4 dimensions. Fourth, ¡¯one-sided support relationship value¡¯ is statistically significant to success on psychological function(+), productive activity(+), life satisfaction(+). Finally, ¡¯non-exchange relationship value¡¯ affects significantly on sub-dimensions of successful aging : productive activity(+), life satisfaction(-). This study shows that the life style of a senior citizen not as a beneficiary but as a contributor who can share one¡¯s own capability and resources improves the possibility of a successful aging.
